Cheating appears to have exploded in the new chapter and season of FORTNITE. Players in various communities are frustrated and many influencers are even quitting play – and Epic Games seems to be doing little to help the situation.

Since the launch of Chapter 6, Season 1 on December 1, 2024, there has been a noticeable increase in cheating incidents. Players have reported encountering opponents using aimbots, wallhacks, and other exploits that undermine the competitive integrity of the game. This surge in cheating has affected both casual and competitive modes, leading to widespread dissatisfaction within the community.

In the gaming world, “cheat mods” refer to unauthorized modifications or software that provide players with unfair advantages. In Fortnite, these mods are prevalent on both PC and consoles, undermining the game’s competitive integrity.

Our Own Fortnite Cheating Observations

When Chapter 6, Season 1 started we began to notice more Bots and a slew of aggressive players in our lobbies. There are commonly many players now who approach us in the lobby and swing their axes or begin shooting at us. Typically we will move about as we await more players and for the bus to arrive. These players will chase us down and continue their militant attacks. We’ve always had the occasion where one or two in-your-face players would approach in lobby, but now we are seeing an abundant amount of these.

On top of these overtly combative players we are now spotting some anomalies we had not noticed before. We have seen players whisking around and leaping and bounding on a cloud of dust looking like Pigpen from Charlie Brown. We have been shot at and hit through solid objects inexplicably and die almost immediately.

Prior to this season, we were used to winning crowns a few times each day after playing 5 to 10 games in a row – these days, we find it quite difficult to even secure a top 10 finish. We believe this might be due to the focused crackdown by Epic Games on cheating players in FNCS tournaments forcing them out to play in Zero Build. Zero Build is where we commonly play.

We don’t expect to always win. Not at all – in fact, we see players stepping up their aggressiveness as new seasons or chapters are announced. When this occurs we will begin to focus less on the win and instead go for the kill count recognizing we cannot compete at the higher level some of these players are capable of.

Epic Games’ Response To Fortnite Cheating

Epic Games has acknowledged the cheating issue and announced plans to implement major changes aimed at intensifying their crackdown on cheaters and cheat sellers in Fortnite. In a statement, they revealed that “significant changes” are on the way to combat cheating both in FNCS tournaments and across Fortnite more broadly.

These measures include:

• Legal Action: Pursuing legal action against both players who cheat and cheat sellers.
• Enhanced Detection: Investing in new classes of detection to combat cheating, including technical changes in-game.
• Tournament Restructuring: Restructuring tournaments to place cash prizes at the highest levels of competition, requiring players to advance through multiple rounds before competing for prizes.
• Stricter Penalties: Implementing a minimum 28-day competitive ban for anyone found teaming up with a cheater in a tournament, with increasing durations for subsequent violations.

These changes were set to roll out with the launch of Chapter 6, Season 1. However, some speculate that the focus is on the FNCS tournaments and other consequential areas of the game than Zero Build.

Player Skepticism

Despite these announcements, some players remain skeptical. A Reddit user remarked: “I will believe it when I see it.”

Another added: “This sadly won’t change much. We might see a few less cheaters but chances are they will just lower their cheats a little so it’s not as obvious.”

This skepticism stems from previous experiences where anti-cheat measures were implemented but failed to produce lasting results.
